The key behind Heritage and sustainability lies in the rule of 5p

People – Partnership – Planet – Peace and Prosperity.

ICOMOS (2021)

Under this framework, we can apply a sensitive restoration of our buildings and at the same time implement robust design strategies that can improve indoor comfort and energy performance.

Want to know how?

Here it is the record of MPhil Candidate Luca Caruso’s presentation held at the International Built Heritage Conference.

The link between Heritage and Sustainable Development Goals can be translated in several ways.

👉The Principle of minimal intervention, paramount in restoration,

👉overlapped by the careful use of energy and materials, some of the pillars of Regenerative buildings.

Where should we start?

✅️ Learning from the past so as to know where we are going

✅️ There is an untapped opportunity from advanced simulation models to predict behavior before touching the building

✅️ To develop a robust catalog of best practices of solution tailor-made to different climates

✅️ To provide incentives to push the diffusion of holistic green rating standards to resolve the split incentive issue (both developer and tenant)

This session was moderated by Prof. JoAnn Cassar, Head of Dept. of Conservation at University of Malta.

We would like to thank Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and @Malta Chamber of Construction Management for inviting our colleagues.
